Models and monsters

Pictures taken from google. Inspiration taken to write this article, personal observations and Vogue Australia. The picture below are pictures of plus size models who look amazing and anorexic models.

Close your eyes for a few seconds now and think back about your childhood days where you could eat to your heart’s desire, that strawberry vanilla ice cream slowly melting in your mouth while the hot summer sun shines on your body with tiny beads of perspiration dripping down from your face. The only thing about being a child is eating to your heart’s desire and burning it off by exercising, that’s the proper way to live your life. Put as time passes, we grow up with different inspiration, the inspiration to go into different career and one of them is modeling. Throughout history, models are known for their slender bodies and flawless faces which glow under the spotlights while walking through the runway but that depiction has caused many problems these days.

As I was walking down the hallway in school today, I saw many girls who are so thin that their bone structure was basically visible and there were those who were slightly more plum than other people. I am not going to judge people and I will never judge anyone as some of these people has their own reasons behind why they are like this. For the skinny people, they may be thin as they might be anorexic, or maybe having a high metabolism rate as well as the chances that they might be starving themselves. As for those who fall slightly more towards the other end of the scale, they might either be lazy and did not exercise regularly and have a proper diet and there might be those who are plum due to genetics. As much as I want to agree that most of the models out there are naturally slim but there are still girls out there who want to make it in the model industry that they go through different means and ways to become slim and it isn’t healthy and a misperception that being a model means you have to be skinny and for people to emphasis more that being slim means you are beautiful is a really pathetic thing. To me, being beautiful simply means having to eat healthily and be healthy.

For those who only hire models and treating them like tools and critique on them like they are some imbecile, that is completely wrong!  I think that models should be given as much respect as the designer receives because for the business to be incorporated, both parties will have to work together. I think that everyone is equal no matter is it in the working industry or social status as it takes two hands to clap. If the models refuse to work, there won’t be a runway show and if the designers refuse to work, the models won’t be able to work. So I think that both parties deserve the same amount of respect that they deserve. Think about it, without the cleaners on the streets, the city would be as filthy as the dumpster but without the cleaning companies, there won’t be any cleaners.

Back to modeling, I think that because more companies are starting to hire more and more plus size models, in my opinion, I think it’s a good way of representing the whole industry that size doesn’t define beauty and I know many people are going to disagree with me but that’s my perception of it. It saddens me to see how many girls are hurting themselves physically, mentally and emotionally, the drugs they take to make them “slim” and making themselves sick so they won’t have any appetite, this whole slim is beauty thing has to go or at least show that being a plus size Is a good thing too. Don’t you just wish everyday that you can return to your chubby little self where you would have ice cream all you want and it’s no one’s business? I think that eating healthily is a major component in our lives however; the need to stay slim and healthy is that you've got to exercise; life doesn’t work just by eating pills, so as your weight.

So, today’s title is Models and monsters Is a metaphor I created for models who are truly beautiful and healthy and it doesn’t matter if they are slim or plus size, as for monsters, it’s the people that doesn’t care for their health and treat beauty like a cult and those who doesn’t exercise properly. Staying beautiful is about being healthy and so that your love ones can still be there for you and around you but if you are going to throw your life away for beauty, it is not worth it. Please think before you even consider pushing that tooth brush down your throat, is it worth it? To throw your health away, letting your parents be worried for you and make them feel sad and guilty while   you suffer along with them with different illnesses. Think about those people around you.

*PS
Special shout out to those who are reading this and you think you are fat but you’re not, you are beautiful! No matter how you look, don’t throw yourself away like that, love yourself, appreciate what your parents have given to you and know that there are a million of people going through the same thing you are going through now. No one can make you feel inferior if you do not allow them to, it's because you are allowing those negative thought affect you, that is what is making you think that what they say is true, as long as you are healthy and happy, many people out there will still accept you for who you are , no matter if you are a plus size or skinny.

  1. First of all, I love the meaning behind this post. You are writing for a good cause and incorporating your love for fashion into it. My only tip for you would be to credit your source for photos used (i.e. Photo Credit: perezhilton.com) to avoid any copyright claims. The same would go for any information obtained in your writing from other websites or articles (i.e. Source: people.com)

  3. It's interesting because in my speech class a few people did presentations on anorexia, and they hit a lot of these points, and a few of them also used that same picture, I really didn't know it was that serious of a problem when all you hear about is people trying to lose weight but can't. Great post keep it up
